Jumplink Technology Roadmap
Jumplink Vanadium Flow Battery as a part of Smart Microgrid System
Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries (VRFBs) are highly effective for large-scale energy storage deployment due to their independent scaling architecture, exceptional operational lifespan, and inherent fire safety. While they have lower energy density than lithium-ion alternatives, making them unsuitable for mobile use, their unique chemical and mechanical traits make them a premier choice for grid-scale, utility, and renewable energy integration.
Jamplink Vanadium Flow Battery Concept:
Core Advantages for Battery Deployment
1. Decoupled Power and Energy Scaling In a VRFB, power output (megawatts) is determined by the size of the electrochemical cell stack, while energy capacity (megawatt-hours) is determined by the volume of the liquid electrolyte stored in external tanks. Flexible Design: Utilities can scale up storage duration simply by installing larger liquid tanks. There is no need to add costly power electronics or replicate cell modules, greatly improving cost efficiency for long-duration applications (4+ hours).
- Grid scale deployment: Grid balancing happens across different timescales. VRFBs are unique because their independent power and capacity design allows them to participate in multiple balancing tiers simultaneously. Flexible Operating Range: VRFBs can operate continuously at any state of charge (SoC)—from 0% to 100%—without damaging the system. Grid operators do not have to reserve "buffer zones" to protect battery health. Bi-directional Responsiveness: A VRFB can switch from full charge to full discharge in milliseconds. This agility allows a single asset to protect the grid from both sudden generation loss (acting as a source) and sudden load drops (acting as a sink).

2. Near-Limitless Lifespan and Deep Discharging Unlike lithium-ion batteries, which degrade quickly over thousands of cycles and suffer under deep discharging, VRFBs provide extreme longevity. No Degradation: Because they use the exact same vanadium solution in both chemical states, cross-contamination is eliminated, allowing for 20,000+ charge cycles with virtually zero capacity loss. 100% Depth of Discharge: VRFBs can be completely drained to 0% capacity repeatedly without causing physical or chemical damage to the system. Asset Lifecycle Matching: A single VRFB installation can operate for 20 to 40 years. This seamlessly matches the operational lifespan of the solar and wind farms they support, creating a lower total cost of ownership over time. 3.Inherent Safety and Zero Thermal Runaway Risk Safety is a critical bottleneck for large battery plants. VRFBs sidestep the core vulnerability of solid-state chemistries: Non-flammable Chemistry: The vanadium electrolyte solution is water-based (over 50% water), meaning it is completely non-flammable and explosion-proof.
We can deploy battery underground:
For areas with no space for ground deployment, with weather not stable conditions or war zones. Put the battery in existing subway's free zones.
No Thermal Runaway: Even under intense heat, high pressure, or a short circuit, VRFBs cannot experience thermal runaway. This minimizes the need for expensive fire-suppression infrastructure and eases deployment in urban or critical industrial environments.
4. Sustainability and Reusability
- Infinitely Recyclable Electrolyte: At the end of the battery’s multi-decade structural life, the liquid electrolyte doesn't have to go to a landfill. It can be easily extracted, filtered, and reused indefinitely in a brand-new battery system.
